Pupil Responsibilities

Being responsible is one of our expectations at Westgate and we aim to give all children the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities in school.

Each class has a set of age-appropriate responsibilities within the classroom that give the children the chance to show they can be trusted and build a sense of community.

School Councillors and Eco-Councillors

Classes demonstrate the British Value of Democracy in choosing their representative for the School Council and Eco Council in Key Stage 2.

School Councillors take on an important role in school, giving the children in their classes a voice in shaping what happens in school. Recently, they have worked with Mrs Daniel and helped advise on behaviour expectations in the hall at lunchtime. They have also played an important role in helping us pick new staff members to join our school!

Eco-Councillors work with Mrs Finnerty and Mrs Penn and help to ensure our school is eco-friendly and green. They have recently worked on helping to protect the trees in the playground.

Westgate Ambassadors

In Upper Key Stage 2, we also have selected Westgate Ambassadors. These children are chosen by the adults in their year group for exemplifying our Westgate Values. They provide help at various events throughout the year including our Open Days and charity events.

Looking After Our Community

As part of our expectation of 'Being Responsible', we also encourage children across school to look after their local environment by taking part in litter picking. We want all children at Westgate to be proud of and respect the local community.

As a whole school, we show responsibility through engaging in charity events throughout the year. We encourage everyone to support our school charities which play a huge role in our local area. This has included food bank drives and supporting St John's Hospice through the 'Elf Run' and 'Reindeer Rush'.
