Computing at Westgate

At Westgate Primary School, we intend to provide high quality Computing education that enables children to become digitally literate so that they can use and thoughtfully communicate their ideas through a wide range of technology and become active, respectful participants in the digital world. It is our intent for all children to have proficient computing skills, preparing them for modern life.

It is our intention for children to be provided with the opportunities to develop their understanding and apply the fundamental principles of information and computation, how digital systems work, and how to apply this knowledge through the use of technology. Children will have experience of using information technology to create computer programs, systems and a range of content. We intend for children to solve problems creatively and analytically, developing confidence and competence through repeated practical experience.

We believe it is crucial that children learn to balance the benefits offered by technology with a critical awareness of their own and other’s online behaviour. We also want them to develop effective strategies for staying safe and making a positive contribution online.
