RE at Westgate

At Westgate Primary School, we intend to develop children’s knowledge, skills and understanding within Religious Education. It is our intent for children to know more about world religions and understand how these religions have developed over time and shaped the past and present. Throughout our RE Curriculum, we want our children to learn from and about religion so they can understand the world around them, appreciate the way that religious belief shapes life and behaviours, develop the ability to make considered choices and judgements about religious and moral issues and enhance their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

The aim of our RE Curriculum is to engage pupils in an enquiry approach where they can develop an understanding, tolerance and appreciation for the expression of beliefs, cultural practices and influence of principle religions and worldviews in the local, national and wider global community.

We are committed to inspiring children to want to know more about world beliefs, cultures and religions. We engage children by providing opportunities to handle religious artefacts and discuss primary and secondary sources of wisdom to develop the skills of inquisitiveness, questioning and interpretation. Children are encouraged to ask their own questions to find out more about religious practices and beliefs and religious vocabulary will play an integral part in developing children’s understanding of religion.
