English at Westgate

 

Our Westgate Community is ‘United in Life-Long Learning’.

 

At Westgate, we follow the National Curriculum for English and teach Reading and Writing skills incorporating Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation along with Speaking and listening. We have designed and developed an English curriculum where we:

 

  • Develop confident and independent readers and writers
  • Teach  rich vocabulary explicitly  
  • Build effective speaking and listening skills
  • Promote accurate and age appropriate Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar usage
  • Expose children to a broad range of high quality and diverse texts
  • Encourage pride in presentation and handwriting
  • Adapt learning and resources for those with SEND
  • Foster fluency within the English curriculum and beyond
